Make-up page for Jan 6, 2019: What is Lutheran Worship?
Hey all, "worship" was the theme of our Confirmation class on Jan. 6, 2019.
For those who missed class and are here for the make-up, please start by watching the following video:
1. Please answer the following in the comments section of this page:
In 2-3 sentences, write what "worship" means to you.
2. Now go to your "Luther's Small Catechism" app on your phone (download it here if you need it).
Click on "Ten Commandments" and read through the description of the Third Commandment. Notice how Martin Luther combines the idea of the Sabbath with hearing the "word". Answer the following question in the comments section:
What do you think the "word" refers to? What does it mean to you to "keep it holy"? And why is it important to hear every Sunday?
3. Look up Colossians 3:15-17, page 1940 in your Confirmation Bible. Underline the verses, and highlight the words peace, teach, and sing. Answer the following in the comments of this page:
–What do these words have to do with worship?
–What does verse 17 imply about how we worship God outside of the weekend worship service?
Thanks for completing this make-up session! And Happy New Year! May God bless you in all that you do in 2019!!

ReplyDelete1. What Worship means s to me is something that you believe in. As well as something that to do or try to do.
2. I think the word refers to gods word and what he says. Keeping it holy means. To keep gods words and his name positive, don't give it a negative notation. It is important to hear every sunday because it reminds you not to give gods word a negative notation.
3. Those words are the three main things that we do during worship. That we doing everything with what God would want us to do In mind.

ReplyDelete1) Worship means to me that we honor something or someone we believe in. Worship is spreading our beliefs to others through our actions and words.
2) The word refers to the word of god and what he has to say to us. “To keep it holy” means to always believe and keep him in faith by spreading his holiness to others. It’s important to hear it every Sunday because it reminds us what god wants us to do to make the world better.
3) These words are actions that occurs during church to worship and remind us our responsibility to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and Gods word. Verse 17 shows that we no matter what should do everything for Jesus the son of God by giving thanks through him.
For me worship means to be grateful for God and to honor him.
ReplyDeleteThe “word” means to not dishonor god and everything he did for us. Hearing this on Sunday’s helps me to do better and be a better person.
When we worship we could be teaching others, singing hymns at church which brings us all peace.
It’s saying that whatever we do outside of church we should be honoring god and thinking what he would do in that situation
Amanda Rosen:
ReplyDelete1) worship means to have a connection with god and the oriention of yourself to god.
2) the word refers to god and what he he says and does for us. To be holy means to believe in not only yourself but people around you. It also means to be faithful.
3) those words are what what we do in worship. It shows that we should have god in mind while doing everything.
